Scoring: 2 Flutes (both double piccolo), 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets, 2 Bassoons, Contrabassoon, 4 Horns, 2 Trumpets, 3 Trombones, Tuba, Timpani, and Strings

 

This is an overture to a planned but never materialized comic operetta/musical. The music consists of material based off of an unusual opening timpani solo, which is developed an explored in a slower lyrical section, followed by a fast, vigorous and highly animated main section.
